Haiti-Heli – the humanitarian relief project

On 12 January 2010 a devastating earthquake of magnitude 7.0 destroyed large parts of Haiti. Just three weeks after the earthquake, with the help of BILD hilft e.V. "Ein Herz für Kinder", Heli Aviation stationed a high-powered helicopter on the island.

From the end of January until the beginning July 2010, the Haiti-Heli predominantly supported German relief organisations on site with ambulance flights, delivery of relief supplies and transport of helpers and doctors to sites all over the island.

The operations focused on remote, sometimes completely cut-off areas throughout the whole island and on the destroyed areas around the epicentre of the earthquake.

Haiti Heli – a short summary

In the approx. 18 weeks of the mission, Haiti Heli supported predominantly German relief organisations and was thus able to make an important contribution to the primary and secondary care of the population. The following diagram gives a breakdown of the relief supplies and helpers transported.

Heli Aviation would like to thank all the relief organisations and their many workers. A special mention is given here to the many voluntary doctors and relief workers, some of whom took their annual holiday for the Haiti mission in order to help the population.
